Self-esteem is the belief and confidence in your ability and value. The way you see yourself and the value you place on yourself has a way of controlling your behavior and attitude either in the positive or negative way.
I have a friend who used to feel insecure about herself. We had a talk about it and she told me that she didn’t like her stature and body shape, she wanted to put on more weight, she has been trying everything possible to look better and that was when I realized that the way she thought about herself or the inside had a way of influencing her on the outside in the way she walk and talk. This feeling of self doubt had a way of affecting her mentally. The time she spent on thinking about her looks could have been spent in doing something significant and gainful. It was pretty hard to convince her to feel good about herself and to appreciate herself for who she truly is because it was hard for her to change her mental orientated belief about herself. Well, after much talk, she started feeling more confident about herself.
My friend had what is called low self-esteem. Low self-esteem is very poisonous to the mind and health of an individual. If you feel uncomfortable with yourself or the way you look, people too will feel uncomfortable with you. You have understand that the way you see yourself is the way other people will see you. If you respect yourself, you tend to gain the respect of others.
There is also what is called high self-esteem. High self-esteem can help in boosting your confidence. It goes a long way in telling people that you are not ordinary, you are different, you are special and talented.
I don’t know the type of self-esteem you have but I want you to check yourself. Your self-esteem matters a lot. If you have a low self-esteem, this is a time to work on yourself and if you have a high self-esteem, then good but it doesn’t stop there, you need to keep on building it and developing yourself.
Nobody has the right to judge you, nobody knows you better than you do, you are only what you believe yourself to be. Build your self-esteem, build your confidence and you will see that there is a lot you can achieve which nobody ever imagined you could achieve.
